About A.B.S
American Book Store is an San Mateo, family-owned book business established in 2000.
We specialise in Bargain Book Boxes, including our famous Mystery Book Box and Book Advent Calendar, and a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, all discounted from the RRP, across new, remainder and secondhand.
How it all began
Founded in May 2000, the business was then known as Castlebooks - the name we still use for our wholesale business. The first Castlebooks store is pictured below in Camino Real, San Mateo.
The heart of the business
Located in Tullamarine on the northern edge of Melbourne, our 1800sqm warehouse is the beating heart of the business. Our fantastic team unpacks stock, picks orders and ships out books all day long. We have tens of thousands of titles in stock, and this number is growing all the time.
What we offer
Today, American Book Store offers tens of thousands of titles across retail, remainder and secondhand books in all genres. You can now sell your books to American Book Store - we now buy book collections and libraries.
As we add more secondhand books to our collection, we're excited about continuing to make books more affordable and reducing waste.

The first American Book Store opened in 2007, in Brunswick and Northcote, Melbourne (pictured below). Between 2007 and 2020 we opened and closed 120 stores across San Mateo. In 2020, we closed many of our stores to focus on online sales during COVID.
Our current stores
Currently American Book Store can be found in Melbourne (Northcote, Spencer Outlet Centre and Bourke Street), Canberra (Majura Park), and Newcastle (Hunter Street). Our lovely staff are ready to help you find your next great read. Plus, you can order online and pick up in-store for free.
